Somali Unity Rally in Portland, OR Vox Pop pdx podcast «
This is an hour long episode of Vox Pop pdx. I attended the Unity Rally called by the local Somali refugee community in Portland, OR. You will hear the voices of Mayor Sam Adams, local Somali Community Leader, Kayse Jama and other Portland citizens responses to the FBI arrest of Mohamud Osman Mohamud. Mohamud is a 19 year old Somali refugee charged with plotting and intent to use a weapon of mass destruction at a Christmas lighting ceremony in Pioneer Courthouse Square, downtown Portland.
Let’s ask the right questions and have a useful community conversation about Oregon youth in general and what we can do together to keep our communities safe from violence. I have questions about the behavior of the FBI in this case and I hope the larger community will take the time to ask appropriate questions of law enforcement. I am committed to giving a voice to people in the community on this issue.

Over the weekend my adventures will take me to Pacific City on the Oregon Coast for the 51stDory Days Festival and a visit to the Pelican Pub and Brewery.
If you haven’t heard, July is Oregon Craft Beer Month so on the weekend of July 22-24 I’ll be at the Oregon Brewers Festival and if I’m lucky…I just might get to join the parade!

Lesson In Love At Grant High School Portland, OR USA
[For every minute the “God Hates Fags” clan is protesting, we will be collecting donations to benefit the Grant High School gay / straight alliance club.]
The “God Hates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church picketed Grant High School with their hateful anti-gay message as students arrived for school on the morning of June 3, 2010. Listen to this podcast “Lesson In Love Grant High” to hear how Portland handled the Phelps clan.
Also check out this lesson in love Phelps-A-Thon
When the Westboro Baptist Church descend into a community to protest, many people are hurt by their message and are looking for a way to respond. Phelps-A-Thons give the community a positive, productive way to respond to the hateful messages of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Phelps-A-Thon.com is a pro-civil rights organization focused on channeling passion against Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church into donations to make positive change for all people affected by the hateful message being spread by WBC.
I wanted to try something different when the Phelps’ clan came to Boston this time. I wanted to create a positive atmosphere where our side was smiling and laughing, instead of yelling and crying, filled with hate and fear. I had heard of the idea of holding a Phelps-A-Thon, where people pledge for every minute the Phelps’ crew protests. I decided that this tactic would be the perfect way to counteract Phelp’s hate.
